How to compare food prices correctly
Why price only makes sense with region, currency, date, and a normalized basis.

A price without context is not comparable. The same product can cost very differently by store, region, and week, and promotions distort the picture. Foodatron records every price with its region, currency, package size, and capture date.
Normalize before comparing
To compare two packages, put them on the same basis — price per 100 g, or for protein shoppers, cost per 25 g of protein. Our protein-per-dollar tool does this and shows the assumptions.
Freshness
Prices age. Foodatron marks a price fresh, stale, or expired, and never presents a stale or geography-unknown price as a universal truth.
